Acupuncture

Acupuncture existed for thousands of years and originated from the practice of Traditional Chinese medicine. When combined with modern medical practice, it is very powerful in improving overall health by treating a wide-range of medical afflictions, creating balance and supporting emotional well-being.

The acupuncture technique involves the gentle insertion of sterile needles, the width of a single human hair, into acupuncture points throughout the body, called meridians. Sensations vary from warmth, tingling, a slight ache, a quick pinch, or sometime nothing at all. The needles are intended to influence the body's energy or "Qi". Qi (pronounced chee) is the Chinese word for life force. When life force flowing through the body becomes depleted or stagnant, the body's overall wellness becomes vulnerable. Acupuncture treatment helps to regulate the body's functions and help promote health through means of nourishing and redirecting Qi.

What will be expected on receiving Acupuncture treatement?

The acupuncturist will make appropriate physical and mental assessments prior to receiving acupuncture treatment to determine what acupuncture points will be used. Patients are invited to wear comfortable clothing and relax in a soothing environment while treatment is performed. Each acupuncture point corresponds to a specific organ system within the body. Acupuncture points are located throughout the body including the ear, back, limbs and belly. Patients are usually treated lying down and needles are left in place for 5-20 minutes. At least two (2) needles will be inserted on distally or locally on each side of the body for energy movement in the channel selected. Electrical stimulation, heat or manual manipulation, may be performed on the needles to enhance the effects of the treatment.

You can expect a treatment session once a week in the beginning. Interval length is increased as your body responds to treatment. The extent of the response can usually be assessed in 6-8 visits, but 12 visits is the norm. Follow-up treatment sessions will be quarterly or as needed if symptoms start to return. Any change, even for the worse, is considered a favorable response. An increase in the strength of the input or the problem may take several treatments to influence a change, if you receive no response. The effect of the treatments is cumulative and lasting improvement is the goal. Please remember that not all problems are accessible by acupuncture.

Acupuncture para sa Pananakit ng Likod (Low Back Pain)

May mga report ng nagsasabing mas nakakaramdam ng kaginhawahan ang mga pasyenteng nagpa-acupuncture kaysa sa mga hindi nagpa-acupuncture.

Kung may pananakit sa inyong likod maaaring makatulong ang pagpa-acupunture. Ang acupuncture ay ang paggamit ng maninipis na karayom (di pangkaraniwang karayom na kung tawagin ay acupuncture needle) sa mismong lugar kung saan masakit ( tinatawag na local acupuncture points) o malayo sa lugar ng masakit na bahagi ng likuran ( distal acupuncture points). Ang distal points ay napakahalaga lalo na sa mga biglaang pananakit (acute pains). Kadalasan, ang mga acupuncture needle ay inilalagay o itinutusok sa bahagi ng katawan maliban sa likuran at maganda ang resulta ayon sa mga nakaranas na nito at nakaramdam kaagad ng kaginhawaan. Maraming mga local points o lugar kung saan nakakaramdam ng pananakit sa likuran at kadalasan ito ay kinakapa ng acupuncture practitioner upang malaman ang pinaka sensitive na lugar at saka ito lalagyan ng acupuncture needles. Ang iba pang pamamaraan para sa pananakit ng likuran ay ang paggamit ng electrical stimulator sa lugar na masasakit at cupping o ventosa.

Patuloy na tinatangkilik ang acupuncture sa lahat ng panig ng mundo dahil ito ay mabisang nakakatulong sa pagpapagaling ng low back pain maging ito man ay kailan lang naramdaman (acute) o matagal (chronic) ng nararamdaman. Ang acute low back pain ay maaaring makaranas ng kaginhawaan sa loob lamang ng ilang sesyon. Maaaring mas maraming acupuncture treatment ang kailangan kung may iba pang nararamdan, paulit-ulit na pananakit, o may sciatica o pananakit ng likod hanggang sa mga paa.

Ang chronic back pain ay isa sa mga palasak (common) at mahirap lunasang suliraning pangkalusugan.

Ang acupuncture ay tanggap na lunas para sa pananakit ng likod (low back pain) sa China, Amerika at Europa maging ng World Health Organization (WHO).

Ang acupuncture ay nakatutulong sa maraming tao na may ibat ibang uri ng karamdaman maging ng mga taong walang karamdaman upang mapanatili ang kanilang maayos na kalusugan!

Kung kayo ay nakakaranas ng sinusitis, low back pain, back or neck pain, o palagiang pananakit ng mga kasukasuan, maaaring makaramdam kayo ng lunas sa pamamagitan ng Acupuncture therapy. Ang acupuncture ay maaaring ibigay sa ibat ibang uri ng karamdaman, maaari din ito sa weight loss (pagbabawas ng timbang) o pagtigil ng paningarilyo.

Karamihan ng mga pasyente ay nagsasabing di nila masyadong maramdaman ang acupuncture needle kapag ito ay inilagay na. Ito ay totoo, sapagkat ang mga acupuncture needle na ginagamit ay napakanipis na parang sa buhok lang ang diameter. Kung ang pasyente ay ayaw o natatakot sa acupuncture needles maaari pa rin kayong malunasan sa pamamagitan ng heat (paiinitan ang likuran) o paggamit ng electric Acupuncture. Ang pagpapainit ng likuran ay napakaginhawa(relaxing) at maari din itong gamitin sa ibang karamdaman lalo na sa mga may sinus problem. Ang electric Acupuncture naman ay halos hindi maramdaman ng mga pasyente at maaring gamitin sa halos lahat ng Acupuncture therapy.

Ang mga pasyente ay sinusuring mabuti ayon sa pananaw ng Traditional Chinese Medicine at Western Medicine.

Ang Teorya ng Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

          Ang Relasyon ng Kidney System sa TCM at Low Back pain

Ang ibabang bahagi ng ating likuran (Low back area) ay mansion o bahay ng Kidney, ibig sabihin po nito ang kalusugan ng lower back ay nakasasalay pero hindi naman limitado sa kalusugan ng Kidney(bato) system. Kaya hindi po maipagkakaila na sa Chinese Medicine sa karamdamang low back pain ay ang ating Kidney System ang pinapalakas.

Base po sa Chinese Medicine, Sa Topic na Qi:

             • Kung patuloy ang agos. Walang masakit (If there is free flow, there is no pain)

             • Kung hindi umaagos, may masakit (If there is no free flow, there is pain)

Ang ibig sabihin po nito, kung ang Qi at/o Blood ay hindi dumadaloy(stagnate) sa mga channel(s), lalong lalo na sa lower back region, magkakaroon ng pananakit sa lugar na ito. Kung ikukumpara po ito sa ilog na umaagos tapos biglang may punong natumba at nabarahan ang agos ng tubig, makikita natin na ang tubig ay di na malayang umagos dahil ito ay nabarahan na ng troso, dahil dito ang tubig ay pupunta sa gilid ng ilog at aapaw o matitigil ang pagdaloy. Ang konsepto ng acupuncture ay upang buksang muli ang ilog, gumawa ng bagong circulasyon upang matanggal ang troso at maibalik ang normal na daloy ng ilog.
